Tried something new...
Some friends talked me into trying Bikram Yoga. Its yoga in a super heated room. I've never done yoga before so I was a bit nervous. And I will say, I wavered between throwing up and passing out for the standing portion. I totally sweat out everything I possibly had. But it was good. I'm gonna try it a few more times to see if I like it or not.

Starting something new
Well, I'm starting something new. In a few weeks, I'm going back to Graduate School. I think I'm going to try and get both my Master's of Accounting and my MBA - since most of the classes are the same - I'd only have to take a few additional classes and that's totally worth it!
I'm going to continue to work and do school part time - at least to start with. I may go back full time in the future - we'll have to wait and see.
Life is a little less stressful now that I've made that decision. Everything else is going moderately well. I haven't run in a month. I went to Boston with the folks at the beginning of July and have turned into a lazy slug!
Oh well, back to life! Work! UGH!

Rest in Peace
A good friend of mine died last night/this morning in a motorcycle accident. I still keep waiting to get a text from him saying it was all a joke.
Rest in Peace, Billy! I hope you are riding your Harley in Heaven!

The Marathon
OH MY GOODNESS!! I totally finished! I ran 26.2 miles in 5 hours 16 minutes and 6 seconds.
Friday night, my cousins came in - super fun. Ate pasta and hung out. I was in bed by 11. And actually slept - thank goodness. The alarm went off at 5:00 and I ate a banana - my stomach was still full from the night before. Before we left, I had a gel to give me a little more energy for the race, but not upset my stomach.
My cousins were running the 10K that started at the same time. We arrived in downtown Fort Worth around 6:30 and walked over to meet the running group at Unos. Made the last pit stop of the day and got my cousins off to the start of their race.
Unfortunately, we hung around in Unos a little too long and ended up in a crowd of people trying to get into the corral - we were at the front of the pack - not where we wanted to be! A jerk who was in the crush with us kept pushing me - I asked what he was doing - he was trying to get into the corral. I told we were all trying to get to the same place - he kept shoving me - and then he said he didn't want to get stuck with all the fatties in the back. I shoved the crap out of him! As if! Jerk! If there hadn't been anyone behind him, he would have fallen. Yea me!
The race started at 7:30. It was a cool morning - 36 degrees and VERY windy - 20-30 mph with 40 mph gusts. I wore my running capris and my Team Blackfeet shirt. I started with gloves, but took them off a few miles in. We ran down Main Street into Northside and then we turned south and headed down to the Rivercrest area - where we trained. There were a LOT of people out and running. The half marathon, full marathon and ultra marathon all ran together for the first 8 miles (or so). Once we split off from the half marathon group, there were a lot fewer people.
We stopped at every water stop and stretched and drank some water. We did gels every 4 miles. It was so cool to run in the neighborhoods - people were outside cheering us on. And some people had food out - snickers bars, bananas, oranges, jelly beans, water, etc. Mile 17 was in the park near my house. We walked a little bit there - the theory was to walk a little before we were too tired. My parents, aunt and uncle and cousins were at mile 19. We took some pictures - I'll have to get more soon.
After Mile 20 - things got a little tougher. We started running back against the wind. And it was VERY windy. But we kept pushing along. we ran down University and got back into the park. It was a little hilly getting to the park and very windy. I followed the advice of the pacer and started walking up the hills. By Mile 23, my body hurt - my feet, my ankles, my knees, my hamstrings, my hips and my back. However, I kept running off and on. My goal was to beat the 5:15:00 pacer.
At Mile 24, we left the park and headed into downtown along 7th street. There were a few hills and a long bridge. The ladies I was running with kept running on a few occasions where I stopped and walked. Headed south on Henderson - Mile 25 - just a mile to go. Up Lancaster hill - I ran a bit, then walked to Jennings where we made the turn into downtown. I started running again - a little more than half a mile to go. I ran onto Main Street and two of my cousins were waiting for me and they ran in the last half/quarter mile with me. Cheering me on. I finished the race in 5 hours, 16 minutes and 06 seconds. They called my name as I crossed the finish line. I waved to my family and held my arms up as I crossed the finish line!
I am so glad to be done!!! It was a great race! I had a blast!! But I don't think I EVER need to do a full marathon again. My body is still sore two days later. I'm going to get a short walk in today just to stretch the muscles a bit.
I'll probably start running again in a week or two. This week I'm just planning on walking. My body is tired.
Woo hoo!!!
